Transcript of video below:

"Hello! My name is Leah Jewiss. I've been a qualified BSL interpreter since 2010.

I live in Essex, near Maldon and work mostly in Essex. Sometimes in London, but mostly in Essex.

I work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, doctors and GP appointments. Access to Work bookings with deaf professionals in their workplace for example office staff, social services, charity, engineering, fashion.

I enjoy running, swimming and walking my dog.

I'm a member of ESLIN so if you want to book me, please contact me through the website. Take care, bye!"

As I mention in the video, I'm a qualified BSL Interpreter since 2010, gaining my PGDip in BSL/English Interpreting and Translation from SLI/UCLan. I've been working as a freelance BSL interpreter since I qualified.

I'm a member of ESLIN of course, VLP (Visual Language Professionals) and have Professional Indemnity Insurance. I'm also a member of NUBSLI the union for sign language interpreters and NRCPD.

Prior to embarking on my interpreting career, I read Psychology and Criminology (BSc) at Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. Upon leaving University I worked for 3 years with an Independent Financial Advisors' firm in the City of London, as PA to the Director. As such, I have a wealth of experience in office settings, letter writing, report writing, meetings and phone calls which I have carried over into my interpreting career.

I feel most at ease interpreting in office environments and most of my work is with ATW clients, supporting deaf professionals in their workplace. I have excellent English skills and a particular speciality of mine is translating from BSL into written English. I'm a staunch believer in the correct use of grammar and spelling and am a big fan of the proper use of apostrophes and other punctuation! 🙂

In addition to ATW bookings, I also have experience working in a variety of other domains including community work, education, training and conferences.
